🎃 HALLOWEEN & HISPANIC CULTURE PROJECT READING SPANISH COGNATES RECOGNITION Bring culture, creativity, and Spanish language learning together with El Museo de las Máscaras, an engaging cultural project designed for Spanish learners! Students explore the fascinating world of masks connected to celebrations in the Hispanic world and compare these traditions with popular Halloween characters and symbols. They learn about traditional masks, Carnaval, Día de Muertos, dances, traditional characters, animals, and symbolic beings while making connections to familiar Halloween imagery. 🎭 WHAT WILL STUDENTS DO? Students will: • Explore different types of masks and their cultural connections through an engaging reading comprehension activity that will encourage Spanish learners to learn the language by identifying and recognizing 27 cognate words associated with Halloween celebrations • Identify Spanish-English cognates from the reading • Learn vocabulary related to masks, celebrations, culture, and Halloween • Research a mask, character, or symbolic figure • After the reading comprehension activity, invite students to create and decorate their own mask • Prepare their work for a classroom Mask Museum display • Share and present their project to classmates 🌎 CULTURAL CONNECTION This project provides an opportunity to introduce students to cultural traditions from the Hispanic world while encouraging them to distinguish between Hispanic cultural celebrations and Halloween traditions.
